Starting with the chaotic evacuation and the dramatic burning of the city, the tour will explore numerous historic sites in the downtown area pertaining to the fall of the Confederate capital, and will conclude with a discussion of how Richmonders responded to occupation, emancipation, sectional reunion, and the dawn of Reconstruction. Tour starts at the Washington Equestrian Monument in Capitol Square, 1000 Bank St. (National Park Service)
