Real Time Event/Lee Leaving the McLean House in National Park Service Historic Village

Location: Appomattox
April 9, 2014
113 National Park Drive
Appomattox, VA 24522
(434) 352-8987

Reenactors portraying General Lee, Lt. Col. Marshal of Lee's staff, General Grant and his staff will all emerge from the McLean House in Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. A Confederate orderly brings the Confederate horses to the front of the house and all three mount. Lee and Grant exchange a tipping of their hats as the three Confederates ride away.

This program symbolizes, in real time, the ending of the historic surrender meeting exactly 150 years earlier. Lee and the Confederates will ride on to the Stage Road and in the direction of Lee’s Headquarters, riding through the large crowd gathered along the road, as he would have done when he rode through his army after the surrender meeting.

Presented by Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.

Hours: 3:00 PM - 3:30 PM
