2015 Signature Conference - Helpful planning information

1. Where is the 2015 Signature Conference being held?


The 2015 Signature Conference, Causes Won and Lost: The End of the Civil War, will be held in Old Cabell Hall the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. 

Originally known as the Academical Building, Cabell Hall is one of three buildings designed for the south end of the U.Va. Lawn in 1898 by Stanford White. The Academical Building was renamed for Joseph C. Cabell, a member of the Board of Visitors, and houses the University's Department of Music and the Music Library.

2.  How can I attend the conference?

Registration for the 2015 Signature Conference has reached capacity and is CLOSED. There is no walk-up registration.

The conference will air LIVE on CSPAN3, American History TV, on Saturday, April 18 at 8:45 a.m. The entire day's proceedings will also be re-broadcast that evening at 6:00 p.m.

The conference will also be recorded on DVD (to be released July 2015) and published in print (to be released February 2016).

 

3. What time should I arrive the day of the conference?

Doors for registration check-in open at 7:15 AM. There is no walk-up registration for this conference. Please bring the confirmation that you received when you registered online, as it will be required for entry.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and it is recommended that you arrive early the day of the conference.  The conference schedule is here.

Directions North of Charlottesville

Follow US-29 South through Charlottesville. As you pass Barracks Road Shopping Center, US-29 South changes to Emmet Street. Stay in the right lane to go straight through the intersection of Emmet and Ivy, following signs for the hospital. Continue on Emmet as it makes a wide turn to the left onto Jefferson Park Avenue toward the hospital. At the next traffic light, make a right turn onto Brandon Avenue (“eunoia” will be on the corner). The K2 parking lot is down the street on your right.

Directions from I-64

Take Exit 118B to Charlottesville and then take the next right hand exit (it comes up very quickly) for US-29 Business N. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Fontaine. Fontaine becomes Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA). Continue on JPA as it turns to the right at the T-intersection traffic light. At the next traffic light, make a right turn onto Brandon Avenue (“eunoia” will be on the corner). The K2 parking lot is down the street on your right.

Directions North of Charlottesville

Follow US-29 South through Charlottesville. As you pass Barracks Road Shopping Center, US-29 South changes to Emmet Street. Stay in the right lane to go straight through the intersection of Emmet and Ivy, following signs for the hospital. After you drive under the McCormick Road bridge, make the next right turn onto Stadium Road. Make the first right turn onto Whitehead Road, followed by a left turn into the parking lot.

Directions from I-64

Take Exit 118B to Charlottesville and then take the next right hand exit (it comes up very quickly) for US-29 Business North. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue. Turn left onto Maury Avenue at the second traffic light. At the stop sign, turn right onto Stadium Road. Turn left onto Whitehead Road, followed by a left turn into the parking lot.

Directions North of Charlottesville

Follow US-29 South through Charlottesville. As you pass Barracks Road Shopping Center, US-29 South changes to Emmet Street. Stay in the right lane to go straight through the intersection of Emmet and Ivy, following signs for the hospital. After you pass Lewis Mountain Rd on your right, the entrance to the parking garage will be on your left.

Directions from I-64

Take Exit 118B to Charlottesville and then take the next right hand exit (it comes up very quickly) for US-29 Business N. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue. Fontaine becomes Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA). Follow US-29 Business N as it turns left onto Emmet Street. The entrance to the parking garage will be the next right turn.



C-1 Accessible Parking Lot

Accessible parking for vehicles displaying a disabled-parking placard or license plate tag is available on a first-come, first-served basis in Lot C-1, which is located off McCormick Road behind Clark and Bryan Halls.

Directions North of Charlottesville

Follow US-29 South through Charlottesville. As you pass Barracks Road Shopping Center, US-29 South changes to Emmet Street. Stay in the right lane to go straight through the intersection of Emmet and Ivy, following signs for the hospital. After you drive under a pedestrian overpass, turn right onto the ramp leading up to McCormick Rd. At the top of the ramp, turn left onto McCormick Road. Take the first right onto Cabell Drive, which is the entrance to the parking lot. Continue on to the end of the road for accessible parking.

Directions from I-64

Take Exit 118B to Charlottesville and then take the next right hand exit (it comes up very quickly) for US-29 Business N. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Fontaine Avenue. Fontaine becomes Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA). Follow US-29 Business N as it turns left onto Emmet Street. After you drive under an overpass, make a sharp left turn onto the ramp leading up to McCormick Road. At the top of the ramp, turn left onto McCormick Road. Take the first right onto Cabell Drive, which is the entrance to the parking lot. Continue on to the end of the road for accessible parking.

Walking Directions to Cabell Hall from Parking Lot (No Stairs)

Follow signs marked "Accessible Route to Lawn and Old Cabell Hall"

1. Enter Bryan Hall on the parking lot level (under the staircase)
2. Turn left at the end of the hall. Elevator is on your left.
3. Take the elevator to the 3rd Floor
4. Exit the elevator on the 3rd floor and turn right
5. Take the first left, and exit the building
6. Turn right, and follow the covered walkway to the Lawn; at the end of the walkway, Old Cabell Hall is directly in front of you
7. Once on the Lawn, Old Cabell Hall will be on the right
8. Take the ramp on your right into Old Cabell Hall.
